When your spiritual boat has sprung a leak, please don’t get the cat wet!
When you get soaked by an emotional wave that crashes your boat, well that can be a crisis too!
Being on a spiritual path is akin to the navigating the waters of life. You gently float down the water on your safe little boat, feeling the gentle wave rock you back and forth. It is lovely and all mindful seeing the reflection of your life in pristine colors dance on the water’s surface.
Once in a while you may feel a tiny wave rock your boat, but you continue to mindfully navigate through. Once in a while a rock jets out that you need to go around. Still, you remain at peace as you enjoy your spiritual endeavor.
Then out of nowhere the waters upturn, the waves hit hard and over the top of the boat the water comes crashing into you. You are now a waterlogged cat, and you feel your emotional zen get washed away as well.
Sitting there, the water drips from your eyes obscuring your view of what was before you. You are overly emotional and nothing outside of YOU is noticeable.
Uh, oh! The puddle of cat essence on the bottom of the boat too! Now what?
Well, being human got in the way and the cat is laughing at you because you’re wet.
Being Zen is being in continious flow
We are in constant movement, realizing that the water of life ebb and flow no matter what. It is easy to be mindful and aware and to embrace our Sassy Cat Ass when the waters are crystal clear and calm with moonbeams dancing on the surface. We also have to be internally aware when things are not as calm. Watch and notice how the changing waters affect your mood and the boat you’re in.
Stay present and patient and enjoy the boat ride of life.
- Flow is an essence of water, which is an essence of emotion. Emotions are not stagnant. It is fluid, dynamic, and a moving form that is transformed by the shape or into the container it is within. We are the ones who give it the shape as we ARE the container of our emotions. So, you can decide what emotional you hold. This means you are allowed to release emotions that are unhealthy or are weighing you down. Surrender to the release. It is cathartic.
- Since water if fluid, it can be released easily. It is us that hold on to it, or try’s as it runs through our fingers. Ritualized release gives it tangibility. What you want to release can be done in a simple ritualistic way. It gives it form which locks it in your subconscious mind. Examples…write it out and toss it out, drown it in water, wash it away, throw it out with the cat litter!
- We know cats don’t like water but they are fascinated by it. Just like us, we don’t always like our emotions, but as humans we are always evaluating and analyzing the complexity of them. We are constantly amazed at how fluid and mutable our emotions are. Trouble cat will stare in the water bowl, and then slowly put his paw in it. He does this with inquisitiveness and being playful. He doesn’t worry about the wetness. He puts his paw in the water of life to see what happens. He creates tiny ripples that he then watches. The ripples don’t affect him, nor does the wet paw. Notice you emotions in an inquisitive way without getting attached. Accept that is ok to have them; just don’t let them define you.
Be the inquisitive cat who is the watcher of your emotions.
- Does your boat need an anchor? Be mindful yet grounded in your mundane life. Spiritual and mundane work together best when there is a balance. Sometimes the boat needs to be docked, and you need to walk on the shore. Regain your clarity and feel some roots below your feet.
- The cat takes a drink; sipping the Zen waters of life. Be the cat! Drink it in!
Lat and most important rule.. Don’t get the cat wet!

I have never seen Disclaimer Cat, I suppose he makes a lot of money and has a top hat. Trouble Cat says he is not very spiritual.
