You too can be Zen like a Cat
Mr Bailey shares his thoughts on being Zen, like a cat.
It is rather simple but for some reason humans like to complicate it. Miss Mattie tries to complicate it too.
I think of it as this, when you walk outside, if you try and take in every image it would be overwhelming. The same with Zen. You take in only what is right in front of you. Really notice it. Then move on to another image. When I am watching a bird in the window, that is what I am doing. I am not taking a bath or meowing at Miss Mattie. Nope, I am only watching that bird with all of my senses.
First you need to look with your eyes, not your mind. Don’t judge or think, just see. Us cats look with the eyes of the present moment. We are not worrying about the weather tomorrow.
When you do something, do it with complete attention. Kids play this way and so do us kittens and cats. You do the same.
Don’t take it personal if you fail or if you have a hard time being present. Even if you only do it for 5 seconds, it is worth it. Keep being present and before you know it you will stay there. Just like putting a cat in a box. The cat may jump out and go back in on it’s own later. You mind can do the same thing.
Be silly. Yes, be silly and giggle. Laughter is great for you and us cats. It also opens up your mind and allows you to relax. That helps with being zen.
You can be Zen any place you want to be Zen. Just focus on your breathing. You can do this at work, in the store, playing with us cats, feeding us cats. You get the picture right?
See, as I said before, most people try and overthink being Zen. Believe me, no one is Zen all the time. It is always a work in progress.
The best way to know when you are being Zen like at cat is….
When you realize that nothing else matters but right now.
That is when you will know you are truly Zen Cat.
P.S. the image above proves to you all that I don’t just “sit” on my cushion. Miss Mattie is spreading rumors that I never move. Not true.
