Patience is one of the Cat Essences or traits we talk about and it is one of the hardest for most of us. It is the ability to understand and embrace your patience and increase your ability to remain still.
Notice how a cat stalks something. Patience is an understatement. A cat has the patience to wait. Be still. Be present and in tune with what is around her, except of course if it is dinner time then all bets are off!
Patience is also a form of action.
~Auguste Rodin
Patience is the act of waiting and the art of bearing all the frustrations, annoyance and trials that come along with the wait, and to do so with grace.
The key is to do so with grace and calmness..
Patience is that is one thing we can never get enough of. I don’t think I have ever met anyone who had too much patience. You?
If you find that one person who has too much patience and they annoy you, well…obviously, you’re the one who has very little patience. It becomes your lack of patience that is the issue.
We feel our frustration nudge at us like cat pawing at our head, or jumping on our chest to get out of bed. Perhaps it’s the continuous meow in the ear that is relentless and persistent. I know that when my patience starts to dissipate, I find myself scrambling to remember why I need to be patient. Sometimes it is tough, but even when my own cat tail gets in a bunch. For the most part I can be patient (except when it is morning coffee time) then all bets are off.
Patience is a direct cousin to surrender, which is what’s necessary to be patient.
So, how do we move into patience?
- Being patient is seeing what you can be patient about, knowing what gets you frustrated and what tugs at your emotional core to create this uneasy reaction. Ask yourself. “What makes me impatient and what can I be completely patient about?” What are differences between them.
- Thoughts don’t make you impatient, emotions do. You can have a thought of wanting to rush, to get going. You can realize it, notice it, but not react to it. The moment you react to your thought, you will get impatient. The cycle continues and expands.
- Breathe. It brings you back to the moment. The breaths need to be long, thoughtful and focused, yet YOU need to be thought-less too.
- Realize that time passes, why rush the future? What makes you impatient now, may not bother you 10 minutes from now.
Once you learn to become more patient, you can realize there is no reason to ever have to be patient. There will be no waiting or patience to have to strive for.
In the meantime, keep being persistence in patience. In doing so you will find your Cat Essence of patience slowly begin to emerge.
