Here are 20 ways to be a great cat parent.
by Miss Mattie
I chewed on this for a while cause I know I represent all the cats. So read it and pay attention.
Number 8 is optional, the rest are very important.
- Go and read all the cat blogs and book to understand us. This will prevent biting and misunderstanding in the future. And it will give you something to do so we can have mom and dad “free'”time.
- Give us love when we demand it. But wait, don’t give us too many smooches. I know, it can be confusing. Just go with it. ( We are not part of “hug” therapy)
- Have a large supply of cat food. It will be the middle of the night when you run out. We will meow to remind you. Just saying.
- It is ok to have friends that have dogs, but they do smell funny. You need more cat friendly friends. We like them cause they like us.
- Give us fresh air and space. Yes, stop being a smoother-mom.
- Warn us before you decide to vacuum. We need to be in our proper hiding positions before you begin.
- Talk to us in your normal voice. We don’t understand you saying “meow-meow” or your high pitched cat calls. It just sounds weird. ( Yes, we know you are weird, but really?)
- Mr. Bailey wants his cushion fluffed daily. ( I know, he is demanding)
- I want a new box every week so I can bit it and leave the pieces in your shoe, on the floor and between the cushions. Cat Box Zen really means Me, a box with peace and quiet.
- Pet me every day, but rub my belly at your own risk. My tail is a radar for my mood, pay attention.
- Keep the noise down for at least 12 hours a day. We need our cat-naps you know.
- Catnip is not optional. Make sure it is fresh and in good supply. Keep it out of the cupboard, I can’t get at it in there.
- Let me run. In other words, get our of my way when I come around the corner.
- Irritate Mr. Bailey daily. Oh, wait, that is a different list-never mind.
- Be careful when you use the phrases, “Caturday”, “Whisker Wednesday”, “Fluffyfursday.” Yes, we get it, but grandma thinks you need more human friends. See number 4.
- Keep the cat litter box clean. I can’t find my litter box wisdom in a dirty box.
- Have tuna available. See number 3.
- Keep talking to your friends about us and keep sharing all those cat pictures with them. (Even if they don’t want to see them) Now you understand what grandma is talking about.
- This is not a brothel, stop allowing those outdoor “primitive” cats to enter our yard.
- Keep the shelves and dressers free of clutter. If not, we will knock the stuff off. Just because that is what we do.
I will have more to add later. Time for some sleep so keep it down. Just saying.
P.S I forgot to add that number 17 is very important. Number 3 too.
Make sure you pass along this important information cause we want all cats to have great cat parents. ( and a good supply of cat food)
