We learn lessons all the time, but this is by far the most important lesson I learned from my cat(s).
By KT Cat Paws
I have always been curious about cats and I try to learn their wisdom all the time. One of the reasons for this blog.
I was relaxing on the couch with my cats last night. You know, when you have all the furniture in the world yet every cat end up in a 3 foot radius of each other.
I was musing at the delight of this thinking, “What is the most valuable Zen lesson they have taught me?”
The most important one relates to a time period about 5 years ago.
Here is the story….
I remember my young cat cuddled with me every night. A simple routine of flattening out the bed blankets as she watched with anticipation. I called her name, and she ran down the hall with enthusiasm, jumping on her spot to settle in.
We got used to our routine and time went by. I stopped being present and before long the consistency of our routine had made me complacent to the fact that her running had slowed, her jumping took more effort and she was getting a tad larger in the middle.
What shocked me more, was that 5 years had passed! Where did the time go??
I realized that the time with our cats is so short in comparison to our own life..being present with them everyday is so important.
So, what is the most important lesson a Zen Cat can teach you?
The answer…..
……Change.
Change is one of the most valuable lessons we can ever learn.
It’s also the one that gives us the most heartache. It causes war, fights, dissolution of spirit, sadness, frustration and eventually we change enough to die. It causes us to do everything to resist it. We end up causing more pain trying to hold on to change then to let it be.
Go read the web, most of the “issues” we have is the fight to get back to “the way it was.”
“We fight so hard to the point that the fight itself against change creates an even bigger change within.”

So, what I say to you is stop. The moment you realize that you can’t “change” everything is the moment that you find acceptance in what is. Enjoy your fur babies. Don’t take a single moment for granted and above all, be present with them for they are changing too.
Peace, Hugs and Purrs!

So true! Love my furbabies and I too forget they won’t be around forever. I will go cuddle them now. Thanks for the reminder KT.
It’s a reminder for me too! -KT. 🙂
