Would you like to meditate with this cute little kitten? How about meditating with your own kitty?
Here are a few simple relaxation exercises that you and your own kitty can do…together.
Hopefully you will have a better time sitting still then the cat.
This is an exercise in gentle concentration using your minds-eye. Visualize these scenarios focusing on them completely using all your senses. Be gentle with yourself, there is no right way or time frame to do this. If you drift in your thoughts, bring them back gently. If you fall asleep, it is ok. I think the kitten did too.
The more you practice, the easier it will be. It is also allows you to forget about everything else for a time being as you become one with the kitty.
Try as many as you like, or only use the ones that call to you. Enjoy.

Relax; take 5 slow deep breaths in and out.
Breathe in…Breathe out…
As you do, feel all of your frustration leave your body. Let yourself become light and airy as all of your frustration and worries fade away with each breath.
- You and the kitty are sitting on a windowsill. The breeze is blowing through the window gently moving the curtains back and forth.
Watch the movement of the curtain.
- Someone just put their paw in a bowl of fresh spring water. There is a ripple created in the water.
Watch the ripples in the water. Feel the coolness of the water on your skin
- One of the kittens feather toys is in the middle of the room. The light breeze from the window is causing a slight movement in the feather.
Focus on the movement of the feathers.
- The sunlight is warming your fur.
Using all of your senses, relax into this feeling of the sunlight upon your body.
- The kitten is content. Her tail is gently moving back and forth.
Watch the gentle movement of the kitten tail.
- You and kitten are sitting on an overstuffed cushion of contentment; your body is completely relaxed.
Focus on how your body would feel being surrounded in this soft cushion.
- You visualize a tiny kitten sitting in front of you with her eyes closed, purring with contentment.
Let the feeling of being in mindful presence of the kitten relax your mind.
Now focus on the internal feeling of purring. Become the kitten, who has no thoughts, just purrs.
- The kitten hears something outside. Her ears tip forward and backwards.
Visualize your ears tipping forward and backwards like the cat. Hear what is around you; just listen intently.
Want a challenge? This one is not easy.
- Your thoughts are like cat toys in your head and you are the kitten chasing them around.
Observe your thoughts without being attached to them. Let them float on by.
Meditating clears the mind, bringing us focus.
