Winter slows everything down…even time.
-KT Cat Paws
I am one who usually loves winter, especially if you compare it to the sweltering heat of summer. Give me hot chocolate, a warm blanket, a warm lap cat and a night with a pretty snow storm every day. Well, on non-work days of course.
Yes, I like winter with limitations.
To me winter brings the feeling of solitude as I take a few moments of quiet reflection with my cat. Hunkering down, I can release the feeling of guilt for wasting a beautiful day. I can write, think and muse about the past season. I can also take the time to sit on the window sill with the cats as we look out at the bare, yet raw and beautiful trees that are showing themselves in their purest form; simplicity.
Even the night-time seems clearer, crisper as the moon seems to glow brighter, showing us the reflection of the light within the dark cold night.
The winter makes me feel less excited but more contemplative and that is not such a bad thing.
I say that we should all try and enjoy the cold season.
As slow as it feels it moves, it will pass.
I suggest you look to the blue sky and realize the blue is reflective of the deep sea as it can be breathtakingly blue against the pure white snow. That blue is our proverbial pool of emotion that we need to respect, yet protect again the harsh winter. For myself, I know that if I am not aware of my changing emotions at this time, they can overtake my winter and become really blue.
Instead, I would rather see the beauty of the blue colors of the winter season.
So, continue to look to the bright blue skies for the expansion of your senses, to the trees for their wisdom and to the hard cold earth for it’s a time to reflect, remember and recollect the thoughts and memories you hold.
Then when ready, take these thoughts and store them like a nut until they blossom again in the spring.
There is wisdom in the melancholy of the season and when we learn to embrace it rather than fight it, we can accept the emotional truth of the winter.
Soon enough our winter emotions will be washed away from the snow, our blue colors will be replaced with blossoms of greens and replenished by the warm spring rains. At that point, all be evident in the beauty of spring.
