Spend spacious time with your cat…now! Blog post 3
Did you ever walk around your house and really look at everything with fresh eyes.
I mean really look at stuff the way it is and not what you think it is. I remember intensely looking at this statue I made as a kid. By the time I was done looking it, I didn’t even recognize it anymore.
Most of what we have as possessions are not noticed. Time passes, things change, but instead of seeing things, we look at stuff through our memory of it.
This happens with your cats too. Years ago I was lying in bed talking to my cat, who was my ‘baby girl.” She was the youngest and to me, still a kitten. That moment, I realized she was now a 6 year old cat. I didn’t really see the age within her. Was I denying it or not recognizing it as it happened too slowly?
At this point, it really didn’t matter. Seeing her as she was and spending quality time was what mattered.
I want you to really see your cat as *she is. Do this with a present mind and open heart.
Use fresh eyes. Glasses are optional, alcohol is not.
- Start by just looking seeing her as if you have never her before.
- Pat your cat using your 5 senses. Feel the fur, hear the sounds she makes, smell and see her clearly. Ok, use only 4 senses cause tasting her would be creepy.
- Mindfully pat your cat from the ears to the tail, under the cheek or at the base of the tail. This is usually their comfort zone spots. See what areas they like and avoid the area they don’t.
- When other people pet her, watch her response. It may give you additional information.
- Notice the times of day she wants to spend time with you. She may just be in the same room, lay next to you in the bed or the couch to cuddle up to your warm body. Cats don’t always need direct contact. Just being in the vicinity of your aura may be enough. Appreciate that.
- Find new ways to be attentive with your cat, even if it’s just a spacious awareness of their presence. See if her curiosity peaks. It may just open up a new way of being present between you and your cat.
It is time for YOU to be the curious cat.
Besides, not only does it open your cat up to you, it lowers blood pressure, decreases stress and helps with developing patience. It allows you to get to see your cat in the now, and that is all we have… right?
