Pet Communication; without words-Blog post 2
Did you know there are a lot of complaining cats on twitter? They say that us humans don’t listen. You know, they may be right.
Having a deep bond with your cat means you need to listen and pay attention. We know cats are very perceptive, but they don’t read minds and most often we are neglecting communication with them.
We talk, they meow. We even haphazardly answer their meows. I think, most of us will admit having meowed a few times as well.
It is unfortunate that we live in the same space as our furry friends and still miss all the wonderful non-verbal communication cues. Well, unless you have grumpy cat, then all bets are off!
To increase communication with your cat you need to understand an important rule.
Cats are zen masters, we are humans.
See the problem?
“I have lived with several Zen masters — all of them cats.”
― Eckhart Tolle
As humans we love to humanize everything and make them just like us, but they are not. We don’t even know how they think..yet.
It’s always a mystery to figure out the cat.
Some tips….
- Don’t layer your human emotion or thoughts onto a cat.
- When you see your cat focusing intently, look into their eyes and see the spaciousness that is Zen. Become spacious too.
- Use your “nose for intuition” and listen to what your cat trying to say. You may get an image, thought, or a voice in your head. You may start to see patterns that repeat.
- Purring is a sign of being happy but it can be the sign of anxiety or pain. Just like the ocean waves sound different when you are in tune with them, soon you will hear the subtle changes in your cats purr.
- Most cats don’t meow at each other, so meowing is a way for the cat to talk to you. You won’t see Peanut Butter cat and Miss Lilly cat having a full-fledged conversation over the food bowl. Listen attentively at the meows, cause they can change their meow to match their needs. They are sneaky like that. They know how to turn on that sad meow that gets you all gooey.
- Look to their language especially their tail, eyes and ears. You will notice a pattern.
We owe our cats our time and energy to understand them. They have trusted us with their life, we need to show them they can trust us to learn.
Peace, Purrs and & quiet thoughts..KT Cat Paws!
