KT shared a story on here about me being so un-zen-like one day. This was the day I slammed into the window trying to catch a bird. I was told this was “cute and funny.” Go ahead, go read the article so you can giggle too. I’ll wait. Bird Watching Zen
I did not find this cute and I want to explain myself.
I heard a bird chirping outside the window where KT was sitting. I could not only hear the chirping, I could also see the colors of the bird and it became a beacon to my own desires. I ran to the window full paw speed ahead to find it shut. My mouth was open in horror as my paws slide down the window. I know KT laughed. I also watched the bird bobble on the branch, I think it laughed too.
I left the room still wanting to destroy that mocking bird. Well, it wasn’t a mocking bird, it was just a bird..who was mocking me… again.
KT says I padded in a huff out of of the room. I think she would too if her pride got scrunched in a window panel.
So, being a Zen Cat, I had time to think. I have also had time to look for that bird. No luck, but I am an indoor warrior cat who knows how to sit in the reflection of my own wanting..and waiting.
- I realized I was looking for an “open” window. I realized that openness is a state of mind and unfortunately for a cat, sometimes dependent on a human. I will now be more stealth in my procedure for bird watching.
- Openness is found within. I tried too hard and I hit resistance. If I took my time, looked within for the spacious feeling, I wouldn’t have been in such a rush to get that bird; to appease that feeling of want, desire and need. Patience is the only desire I need.
- It is OK to laugh at oneself. When a cat can’t giggle at silly stuff he does, he meets more resistance. Laughter creates spaciousness and connection with others…even birds.
At that moment, KT was Zen, the bird was Zen, but I was not being a Zen Cat.
That being said….
If I could go outside, I would mock that bird.
Thank you for listening….Bailey the Zen Cat
