Black Cat Shadow

We are almost there…tomorrow is Halloween! 

We can’t have a series of posts about black cats and Halloween and not talk about shadows. I mean this IS the time of year.   

In some cultures, shadows were considered evil, misunderstood and avoided. Wikipedia says that “An unattended shadow or shade was thought by some cultures to be similar to that of a ghost.” So when you see a black cat do you see a black cat or an illusion of the shadow of a black cat? 

Interesting.

We can also talk about shadow as that place that is within.

This is what psychologist Carl Jung called as being the “hidden subconscious part” of us that holds our deepest fears, worries and projections. He also believed, as do I that the shadow side of our self is also the place where we find the greatest creativity.

This time of year we think about the shadow because we also see more of them. The tree’s loose their leaves and beyond that are the branches that cast a eerie shadow. We see decoration that are scary and their shadows just add depth to our already fearful mind. Plus it seems everyone is trying to scare us in one way or another.

BOO!

What is a cat to do? 

This is the fun part of Halloween but it also pulls us in and makes us focus on what really scares us. 

The interesting thing about shadows internal or external is that they need light. A shadow without light is what?

Nothing.
