Black Cat Countdown -Day 1
Happy Halloween!
Here is the last post- a poem for you!
‘Twas the Night of Halloween
Witches & Cats
Twas’ the night of Halloween and all thought the house,
No creature was stirring because the cat caught the mouse.
The pumpkins were placed on the porch with great care,
In hopes that trick n’ treaters would soon be here.
The children will be dressed in their costumes and such,
Even the cat in a fairy costume was spreadin’ magical dust.
I now put down my kindle and sprang from my warm bed,
With visions of dogs in bad costumes and zombies circling in my head.
When out on the lawn across such a loud clatter,
The neighbor across the street was heckling like a mad hatter!
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But the tin man, grim reaper and Jedi walking the street- oh dear.
I sat down to gaze for answers in my crystal ball
I found the wisdom I needed; they’re cuddled next to me on my woven shall.
Pondering my mind about this spooky Halloween lore,
In our home we celebrate with deceased ancestors, real witches and so much more.
Out of the blue, my cat ran to the window and gave such a meow.
It could be the invisible ghosts of Halloween, or she wants some cat chow.
I now sense our Halloween friends are soon to arrive,
My cat put up her paw, smiled and gave me a pawsome hi-five.
Later we’ll bring the kids on a stroll for a trick and a treat,
Than the cats will get a toy, catnip and of course, tuna to eat.
My black cat raised his long whiskers and sniffed with his nose,
He gave me a half-eyed look and sprang in my arms as I rose.
It is now time to put on my whiskers, black nose and maroon fluffy ears,
As I listened, I heard a whistle, shout, and hoots as they knocked and said “hey dear!”
Beyond candy, costumes, pumpkins, ghosts or my silly cats,
This is the witches New Year with pentacles, brooms and pointy hats.
We’ll sit for a silent dinner and place a guiding light for our ancestors tonight
Then we’ll dance and make merry the rest of this *thin-veiled night.
No one here is superstitious of the scary cat tales that are told,
We love the decorations, our *familiar cats, and the “witchy” tradition it holds.
All our friends are now gathered under flickering candle light,
Us witches & cats are now ready for the festivities of this magical and pawsome night!
Happy Halloween!
Be safe, have fun and keep your black cats close.
Blessed Be!

*thin-veiled -On Halloween it is said that the veil between the living and the dead is thin. We can connect with our ancestors easier.
*This “IS” considered a witches new year AND a day to honor all of those who passed away.
*Familiar – a spirit guide, usually an animal. Cats are associated with witches as they can sense what we can’t.
