If you ask what is the single most important key to longevity, I would have to say it is avoiding worry, stress and tension. And if you didn’t ask me, I’d still have to say it.
George Burns
Worrying is so common that I think we forget that we do it all the time.
Miss Mattie and Mr. Bailey have different perspectives on worrying.
Miss Mattie says…
Life is perfect. I am at peace, I am purring and I feel great. Until, the worrying starts again.
I don’t worry alot but I do worry about important things like my bowl being full and my litter box being cleaned on time.
I also worry about how clean my tail is and if I will ever eat again. Oh, where is that primitive cat that torments me outside the window. I worry about that sometimes.
I know I get distracted, so I don’t worry for long.
Ummmm, What was I worrying about?
Whatever. Soon enough, something else will worry me so I really don’t need to worry about what I was worrying about.
Does that make cat sense?
I know Mr. Baileys Zen gets in the way of his worrying. I think he worries about if he is being Zen enough, or giving me proper Zen lessons. I always see a weird look on his face after our daily lesson.
My human says it is a look of irritation.
I don’t know why he would be irritated, Geez.
I think he looks constipated. I would worry about that if I was him.
I know that he doesn’t seem to be worried about his ass getting fatter from sitting on that zen cushion all the time.
Hey, who am I to judge about what he worries about.
When my human starts to worry, it seems like she is spinning her cat tail around getting it all twisted up.
I think her head is too full, so she keeps talking about the same thing. Maybe it will all come out out of her mouth and be gone.
Maybe if she tips her head some of that worry will fall out. Maybe if she stops talking it won’t re-enter again.
For someone who runs a cat blog about Zen, I think her zen has got up and went.
Should I worry?
No?
I say that worrying is not good. You eat more, move less and you annoy the cats around you. I know this.
You mind gets so filled up that you can’t find your toys. This will only make you worry more.
Besides, being a worry cat can suck a few lives out of you.
I think worrying should be illegal. Do you agree?
I will go get some catnip, that will stop my worrying.
Mr. Bailey’s wise cat wisdom.
Everyone worries Miss Mattie.
I remember you getting all worked up on tuna Tuesday. You kept paw –popping the human to get out of bed. That was worry- Hoping the situation will be different then what it is.
When we worry, we are not living in the present.
The mind is a powerful thing and something it gets stuck on a thought. Yes, I know tuna is an important thought but being present is the only non-thought you need.
Worrying has never helped anyone. It doesn’t make things better and it doesn’t add anything to the situation. Action does, worry does not.
We can’t turn off our thoughts. but we can refuse to follow these thoughts into the recesses of our mind.
We need to breathe in purrs and contentment and exhale hisses and growls.
In the meantime we should be grateful for our human and her questionable zen ways.
Together we can stop our human from chasing her tail. We need to help her be more present. Maybe we can give her some love and purrs.
Be careful Miss Mattie, all the tuna you eat my go to your butt too.
p.s. I am not constipated. Thanks for your concern.
p.ps. Stop using so much catnip.
