Being a Bored Cat
Mr Bailey, the Zen Cat
Humans say all the time “I am bored.”
They even think Zen is boring. Weird right?
The last thing I heard was “Why do you want to sit around and do nothing, how boring is that?” My answer….”Why would I want to change what is?”
Humans and cats don’t like to be “bored.” Everyone takes it as a negative thing, which it is not.
It is when we are chasing something else that we get bored. Our tail, a day dream, or a thought for something to be different. We want it to be what we think it should be.
If we say we are bored, then we want it to change.
A pleasure or desire will only temporarily remove the boredom. After you are done chasing your tail what will you chase next?
Boredom itself can be a a good thing. Yes, it is an emotion devout of excitement and it can make us feel like our empty bowl in the morning, but that is not always bad. It may help us to appreciate other emotions.
When we leave boredom as it is, then it is rather simple and spacious.
It is an opportunity to experience the energy that is hidden in the background away by our shiny cat toys and other distractions.
When we are really bored, we need to find a good cushion and experience the boredom completely.
Another thing boring helps is learning to be patience. Waiting for the feeling to pass because eventually it will and then we can complain about the next emotion.
See, what I mean?
Trust me, there are worse thing to feel then being bored.
Perhaps if we sit long enough with the boredom we may realize it is a good opportunity to experience what we are being bored about.
Quiet your mind, be mindful and go into the boredom and see what you find.
When you pay attention to boredom it gets unbelievably interesting.

Indeed, Mr. Bailey. I could not agree more. Boredom IS Zen? Become one with self, many new and greater things will surface?
Thanks Jane. I agree…Mr. Bailey gives good advice. 🙂
