The Cushion of Zen
If you have read any of this blog or followed Mr. Bailey and Miss Mattie, then you KNOW about the famous Cushion of Contentment.
I have heard some of our twitter friends think that this cushion is not real, but instead an enlighten place from where Mr. Bailey gives his words of wisdom. Akin to being far removed from society as he sitting on an imaginary lotus flower pondering his existence. (That is T-Cat, not Mr. Bailey)
Well, I am here to tell you the cushion is real.
He sleeps on it, sits on it, bites and kneads it and he has fallen off it once. Miss Mattie has stolen too, as she attempts to sit in his space.
For Mr. Bailey it may be his cushion of contentment but for me it is a commandeered cushion from my sofa. At this point, I figure I will never get it back, which is ok considering all the stuff that happens on this cushion. Other than Zen pondering.
Besides a cushion that holds the wisdom of Mr. Bailey, it also collects all the fur he has left behind. This cushion has also provided us with a few cat whiskers and few paws prints. (We think those are Miss Mattie’s, but one can never be sure) We have also found a few sprinkles of cat litter. Sigh
This cushion is cushion and a good size. It provides warmth, comfort and a place that is high up to watch the going on in the house.
Despite the cleaning and brushing and moving of this said cushion, he manages to find it again.
So, this cushion has brought us some Zen Wisdom….
- Watching Mr. Bailey sit there with the sun pouring down upon, his eyes half open is an image in zen. Very relaxing.
- We should never judge how one finds his Zen as we are all unique in our own ways.
- Just like Zen the ‘cushion’ itself can’t be defined. What is your cushion, may not be mine and vice versa.
- You can be mindful on a fluffy or flat cushion, it makes no difference especially if you are a cat.
- What is here today is gone tomorrow. We have proven impermanence with the vacuum.
- You can find Zen anywhere, but a cozy cushion does make it easier.
- Be mindful of the obstacles to get to your “zen” cushion. Are you being zen getting there?
- It doesn’t matter how one sits on the cushion.
Blessing to that cushion of Zen for it has provided much contentment in our home. As for Mr. Bailey, at least he can stay off the hard floor of Miss Mattie’s reality for a bit longer.
Peace, Hugs and Purrs…KT
P.S. Does your cat have his/her own cushion of contentment?
