Nautilus and Kitten… so much wisdom, yet so different.
I saw this adorable picture of this orange kitten, and the same day I saw a similar picture of a nautilus shell. So, I put them together just to compare. The kitten may be fuzzy, adorable and full of Zen wisdom. The Nautilus may not be so so cute or fuzzy, but still i’ts lessons are full of wisdom.

I am better looking than Grumpy Cat!
What is a nautilus?
The Nautilus is a crab like creature that is quite alien looking, and is actually considered a living fossil. It has been unchanged for millions of years and kinda looks that way. The bony body structure of the nautilus IS the shell.
The shell of the nautilus is beautiful yet complex. The shape is designed after a logarithmic spiral. This spiral follows mathematical Phi can continue for eternity without repetition.
This spiral is found in the natural word in things as sunflowers, the spiral of the galaxy, the cochlea of the ear and many more. It is considered proportionately perfect: nature’s sacred geometry.
The nautilus spiral structure is also used in art, architecture and in religious symbols as it is said to be a blue print of life and a symbol of life’s mysteries.
When you look inside the nautilus and see the spiral, you will notice it contains chambers. As the nautilus outgrows its chamber, it creates a new larger chamber in which to move into too. When the nautilus is threatened it can close itself within a chamber for safety.
The nautilus spends most of its time deep in the ocean and can ascend to depths of about 2600 ft. Being very buoyant it adjusts its water intake and pressure move to about.
Pretty impressive, but not as impressive as the wisdom it can hold.
5 ways to connect to the nautilus
1. The ocean represents our emotions
The nautilus is a water creature, and water is symbolic of our emotions. We see our emotions as the ocean waves that carry us. They can be gentle, calm or rough depending on our mindset. What is interesting is what may seem turbulent and rough on the surface of the ocean is calm and serene on the ocean floor.
Even in our own mind, under all the mind chatter and waves of emotion, is calm and undisturbed. We create our ocean waves with our thoughts and overactive mind, but we can also find the calm below it all.
The waves represent our thoughts; the ocean represents our powerful mind. Water is reflective; use it to navigate through the water of life. Ride the waves gently realizing that we don’t need to control the waves, instead we can just watch them go by.
The ocean and our mind is big; enjoy the vast spaciousness that it contains.
2. Use the nautilus power of buoyancy.
The nautilus teaches us to be fluid and adaptable as we change with the pressure of life. To change, we may have to release excess energy or draw in extra energy. Just like the nautilus, it can bring in or release pressure to change direction or buoyancy.
This is a good reminder for us to learn to be fluid & buoyant when life may be difficult. It also lets us know that we can release or gain, ebb or flow, all while being present to our surroundings.
We do have the choice to change, but sometimes we have to become ‘one’ with the flow and respect the direction the waters of life are taking us.
As we bobble in the ocean waters of life, trust that the ocean of abundance will provide what is needed at the time.
3. Use the nautilus chambers for growth
The spiral of the nautilus is not only beautiful; it’s also a protection for the nautilus creature. When we move within the nautilus spiral staircase, we can create new chambers for our growth. This helps us to think “outside” the chambers of our mind.
On the flip side, we can also ‘hide’ in a chamber for safety. We have to be careful that we don’t say ‘stuck” for too long in one of those past chambers because it is easy or cozy.
We need to remember to live life in the “now” while seeing with clear eyes the spacious view of the horizon.
Use the chambers of the past as a place to reflect upon previous memories; otherwise close those chambers as they are not necessary to the present mindset.
We are the only ones who can decide what we want to hold in our chamber space.
4. Embrace the power of the spiral
The spiral of the nautilus is a mirror to a cyclical nature of life. It is a symbol of balance where there is no ending and no beginning. Just like the DNA of our life, the nautilus is linked to the spirals of the galaxy. The spiral can keep going through infinity. To move through this spiral you will see there is unlimited room for expansion, growth, and room for being present.
This awareness is the art form of allowing the awakening part of you to open; to see patterns and the synchronicity of life.
Allow your intuition to expand and trust in the instincts of nature and your purpose for being here.
Here is where you can find your purpose and embrace your own inner spiral.
5. Be one with the shell
The nautilus shell is beautiful with its translucent refection and lovely hue of color on the inside. Along with that it also holds a strange looking creature as well.
The reflection of our inner self can be beautiful or ugly, and we alone have the ability to decide what to share with others.
When we open to love and Zen essence we can share a bit of our inner beauty and wisdom with others.
The beauty of this shell is its complexity yet overall simplicity; just like us.
When we reflect love and gratitude; it connects us soul to soul.
The nautilus has such great wisdom and can be used a wonderful metaphor to live your life.
It is a great gift from the ocean, from a place where the depths of wonder is far beyond our reach or understanding.
