Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.
Jonathan Swift
We know that cats have great vision.
It is interesting to “see” their zen wisdom and how their cat eyes can teach us how to “see” life in a different way.
Here is an Eye to Insight…
Cats have binocular vision so the images meld together like a pair of binoculars. They see in 3D and they can see very precise.
Being present in the moment is to be able to focus on something completely with no distractions.
Since they have wide shaped eyes, they have great peripheral visions. We humans have about 180 degree peripheral vision; the cats are over 200 degrees.
They can literally see what we cannot. They can recognize what is outside the cat “box” of human vision.
Photo-receptors in the eyes allow us to see light. We see vibrant colors in the day, which means we have more cones than rods. Cats are opposite with more rods and less cones which mean that they see better in the dark. They only need a 6th of the amount of light then us humans do.
Light and darkness are both important to be balanced. Besides, our inner light cannot shine where there is no darkness. Cats are part of the yin/yang of life.
They believe that cats don’t see colors of red, brown or orange. I can’t say if this is true or not, my cat won’t tell me. Honestly, that would suck as this website is mostly orange.
We may have limitations, but the cat adapts to theirs. Besides, what you don’t know you have is not lost in the first place.
Cats have the best vision for seeing fast moving objects, especially ones that move away from them. (Now you know why they do well with laser pointers.)
Slowing down your mindset makes everything seem slower. This is the process of seeing all the details to really enjoy the experience.
They see better in distance; about 100 feet away.
They see into a distant what we can’t see close up.
Cats don’t blink; they squint since they have no eye lids.
They close their eyes to look within to their inner purr; the quiet contemplation of complete presence and no-thought.
Cats don’t see “detail” very well. To them, their human may appear hazy when standing in front of them.
Seeing what is in front of you is less important than “knowing” or perceiving what is in front of you. Cats use other means to “see.” They embrace all of their senses, being receptive to seeing life as it is meant to be seen…. in the present with no judgment.
You may never see as a cat does, but you can learn these great lessons from our little Zen masters.

The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.
